What does it mean to care for data in research and innovation?
Data management is not only about tools, standards and processes. It also involves understanding the context in which data are produced, how they can be made useful and reusable, and the responsibilities that come with their management.
Drawing on the experience of the Master’s programme in Data Management and Curation (MDMC), this online talk explores the different dimensions of data curation and data stewardship, and the skills needed to manage data responsibly throughout their lifecycle.
The talk takes these experiences as a starting point to reflect on what it means to “care for data”: from technical expertise and interoperability to ethical awareness, a systemic perspective and the ability to recognise the role that well-managed data play in research and innovation.
The session will also consider the role of education and professional training in developing a culture of data stewardship, bringing together technical and transversal skills that are increasingly relevant across data-intensive environments.
The event is organised by the ICDI Competence Centre in collaboration with GARR. It will be moderated by Giulia Caldoni (University of Bologna) and presented by Federica Bazzocchi and Mariarita de Luca (Area Science Park).
