Two days to discover the projects and results of the participants in the Master’s programme in Data Management and Curation.
How can research data be organised, described and made reusable? What tools and methodologies can support increasingly structured and interoperable data management?
On 17 and 18 June 2026, the Conference Centre at Area Science Park’s Padriciano Campus will host the final session of the second edition of the Master’s programme in Data Management and Curation (MDMC), the one-year advanced training programme promoted by Area Science Park and SISSA - Scuola Internazionale Superiori di Studi Avanzati to train professionals specialising in data management and curation according to FAIR-by-design principles.
The event will provide a concrete overview of the skills developed throughout the programme through the presentation and discussion of the participants’ final theses and project work. The participants will present activities carried out in collaboration with research centres, scientific infrastructures and companies, addressing real-world challenges and applications in the field of data management.
Topics will include research data FAIRification, the management and organisation of digital repositories and infrastructures, the use of artificial intelligence for information analysis and management, and applications in fields ranging from neuroscience and bioinformatics to advanced manufacturing, spectroscopy, high-energy physics and hydrogen research.
The programme
The 17 June session will focus on theses developed primarily at Area Science Park, CERIC-ERIC and beanTech. Projects will explore, among other topics, digital infrastructures, data repositories, research support tools and applications of FAIR principles – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable.
On 18 June, following institutional greetings from representatives of Area Science Park and SISSA, the programme will continue with a keynote lecture by Massimiliano Novelli, Senior Data Curation Scientist at the European Spallation Source ERIC.
The session will conclude with the graduation ceremony for the participants of the second edition of the Master’s programme.
In the afternoon, the Conference Centre will also host the Italian Data Steward Community Event, providing an opportunity for discussion and exchange within the Italian data steward community and on emerging skills in data management.
